Construction of the New Parliament road now underway

The construction of the eight-lane 7km road stretching from Bindura Road to the New Parliament Building in Mount Hampden is now underway. The project falls under the infrastructure clusters and roads that are regarded as key economic enablers in the attainment of the country’s Vision 2030. Zimbabwe aims at achieving an upper middle-income country status by the year 2030.

Major works have also been seen on the reconstruction of the almost 13km Old Mazowe Road from Westgate roundabout with gravelling ongoing in a bid to widen the road. Work on upgrading a new single bridge along the Old Mazowe Road to a four lane one is also underway simultaneously.

According to the plan, all the works including the 4,7km crescent around Parliament and a 2km road that will also lead to Parliament are expected to be completed by July 31 2024.

In a statement, the Transport and Infrastructural Development Ministry said it has also directed another contractor on the Harare–Kanyemba Road project to prioritise the urban section from the intersection of Lomagundi Road with Sam Nujoma Street to the main access to the new road leading to the New Parliament Building.

According to the same statement, the ongoing works show the commitment by the ministry to deliver meaningful progress towards infrastructural development and ensuring satisfactory road infrastructure in support of the August 2024 SADC Summit.
